As Fall vastly approaches, new beginnings and bright futures quell the sun-kissed adventures of summertime. What better to welcome the everchanging seasons than to showcase women (and lone man) who have changed fashion and style for the better. Whether they were a 60s bright eyed model or are a current artist who keeps up with the trends – or better yet, makes them – this list compiles my personal top 10 movers and shakers of fashion’s past, present, and future.
10. JULIE CHRISTIE
Comfortable in her own skin, Julie Christie just oozes sex appeal through her effortless style and equally effortless scowl.
9. BLONDIE
Blondie’s style had a life of its own. Her modern glamour that shined through tomboy accents allowed full denim outfits and slightly oversized t-shirts to look just as feminine as any dress.
8. ALEXA CHUNG
What with her trademark cat eyes and fluffed up-messy-on-purpose bob, Alexa Chung is one of the most relevant trendsetters of “now”. She was definitely the catalyst for the boyfriend jean revolution.
7. BRIGITTE BARDOT
Bardot walks the 60s glamorous line hand in hand with Christie. She is one of the most famous sex symbols for her trademark tousled, blonde locks and pursed lips.
6. JANE BIRKIN
Who better to have a beloved handbag named after them than the tall, thin, high fashion rocker chick that I wish I could be?
5. MARSHA HUNT
Hunt constantly bounced between long, bohemian dresses and leather shorts or tight pantsuits. Her ability to find a beautiful balance of comfort, edge, and femininity blows my mind.
4. KATE MOSS
Although Kate Moss is one of the most highly spoken of models of her generation, her unique features are not the only qualities that set her apart from the rest; her street style speaks for itself. Effortlessly chic and tremendously cool, it’s almost as if her confidence is the true trend to follow.
3. JAMES DEAN
Two words: leather jacket. His allure and nonchalant vibe inspires a feeling of edgy coolness.
2. VERONICA LAKE
Although I adore her as a namesake, I thrive on her vivacious 1930s style. With just the raise of an eyebrow and a flick of her iconic, sideswept hair, I’m enthralled in her revolutionary way of carrying herself in her equally iconic clothes.
1. SIENNA MILLER
Ms. Miller is my number one style icon because she, along with Chung, is a current fashion muse and she embodies all of the qualities I adore in the other women listed: a bohemian and comfortable attitude that plays with edgy and glamorously feminine clothes that either closely fit curves or are loose enough to highlight them. Her accessories, hair, and makeup also takes note from almost every pre millennia era while mixing well with the 2000s vibe.
